Step two:

What are your marketing and sales goals? Again, cannot go too deep into this. After all, we want to get to social media marketing for your business, not go through business 101.

Step three:

Who is your target market? Do they know you already because you are like Coca-Cola? Do you have brand awareness? How would someone go about finding you, and what could or would trigger that initiative?

Step 4:

Take the above information and think about how you could apply social media marketing strategies to your marketing program.

Important things you need to “know” about using social media as a marketing tool:

  • Chances are that the just tweeting or setting up a Facebook fan page is not going to do much for you without having a plan that integrates them into an overall goals based strategies.

  • Some strategies are going to take time to have an effect.

  • Some programs may produce immediate results.

  • Like all marketing programs; you need to define your expectations, measure the results, and re-adjust expectations and/or your efforts continuously.

  • While social media marketing can used as a tool to help with search engine optimization, if your market is competitive at all it is unlikely to make a huge difference with your search engine rankings without many other factors being addressed.
